CG Today - Spanish audiovisual Spanish audiovisual exports to the Asian market have risen by some 75 per cent on year led by the animation segment, where demand is booming thanks to a mushrooming of Asian markets.

The appeal of international animations in Asia has been fuelling growth at Spanish production houses.

Industry players said that Asia is still niche for Spanish distributors but it is a very fast-growing market.

Asia currently accounts for 6.8 per cent of the overall sales pie for Spain - that is expected to increase to 10 to 12 per cent in the next two years. Maria Jose Vadillo, part of International Relations with the Spanish Federation of Audiovisual Producer's Association, said: "Asian countries are very important for us, they are at the fourth position for sales, it's after Europe, USA, and Latin America.

"We have seen growth comparing to the past year and especially in animation. We hope for the next two years it will increase heavily compared to other countries or other areas."

Spanish animation distribution firms said that Asia is hungry for international content, and that is helping develop the market here.
