SpongeBob SquarePantsCalifornia: Nickelodeon, the number-one kids’ brand and largest producer of television animation in the world, has picked up a ninth season of the hit animated series SpongeBob SquarePants, it was announced today by Brown Johnson, President, Animation, Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids and Family Group. The network is adding 26 episodes to the series, which ranks as the top animated program with kids and tweens in 2010, that will roll out in 2012, including the series’ landmark 200th episode. SpongeBob SquarePants has been TV’s number-one animated series with kids 2-11 for 10 consecutive years.

The Nickelodeon Fellowship for Diverse Writers, which offers a yearlong and salaried position to successful entrants, has placed a number of its alumni into meaningful production roles of popular network television animation. In recent news, three individuals have been named to join staff at Nickelodeon for the fellowship's eleventh year. The three fellowship winners possess a composite background of illustration, sketch comedy, and hands-on writing and directing.

TapaasTask force set up to suggest policy measures

In a bid to give a boost to the sunrise sectors of animation, gaming and VFX (visual effects imagery), the Information and Broadcasting Ministry is involving players from the industry in a big way in evolving a policy that helps them realise their true potential.

A 13-member task force has been constituted to dwell upon various issues concerning these sectors. The committee headed by I&B additional secretary Rajiv Takru has been given freedom to evolve own methodology to ensure widest possible consultations on a 14-point charter in the terms of reference and submit its report within six months from the date of its first meeting.
